Yoram Yasur Blume | How much do you know about the origin of the food you eat? Did you know that if it were not for a mistake, you would not be eating a delicious chocolate chip cookie? And every time you’re savoring a sandwich, you should remember that its origin was apparently due to chance …

Sandwiches:

Although there are many versions about the origin of the sandwich, one that has more transcended is that of John Montague, the Earl of Sandwich. It is said that this count was so fond of gambling that he asked his employees to bring the meat in two slices of bread, so he did not have to get up and interrupt his card game.

Chocolate Chip Cookies:

In 1930 Ruth Wakefield created the first cookies with chocolate chips. She owned a restaurant and when she realized that she had run out of chocolate powder, she proceeded to chop up a tablet into the mix, thinking they were going to melt. The result? The sparks were left intact and these delicious cookies were created.

Ice cream stick:

They say that in 1905, Frank Epperson, an 11-year-old boy, had forgotten a glass of soda at the entrance to his house. The next day, when he saw it, he found the frozen glass and when he removed his contents, the first ice cream palette appeared.

Potato chips:

YORAM YASUR ANALICES:

“The first potato chips emerged in a restaurant in New York. A customer had complained several times that his potatoes were too thick. The chef, tired of the disconcerting client, decided to cut them as thin as possible and then fry them. The result enchanted the diner”.

Cornflakes:

In 1894 the Kellogg brothers sought to create a nutritious food to improve the diet of patients in a Michigan hospital. Yoram Yasur Blume: “Experimenting with different ingredients and recipes, one of the brothers left to rest cooked grains of wheat, when he returned he realized that they had a very particular shape, then decided to bake them until obtaining small flakes, which with milk were very good”.

Ice Cream Cones:

In 1904 an ice cream vendor had run out of jars, so he had no better idea than to buy a waffle dough in a nearby pastry, with the dough he made a cone-shaped ice cream container. The result was a success.

That’s right, many meals we love where made by accident!
